Weight
I know that family heredity plays a factor and being around people plays a factor in your weight but what if you are a skinny person and a friend or family member calls you fat to make themselves feel better? would it affect the kid to gain weight or loose a bunch of weight?? Just wondering what all your opinions are let me know.

weekly post
i thought that this week was very interesting because i have many family members who have different types of psychological disorders. I thought it was cool that i knew some of the symptoms of different disorders because i have personal meaning of the text. I also thought that because i had personal meaning i understood the information better and was able to remember what i needed to remember better and more easily.
Bipolar Articles #2
This article is about the symptoms of a person with bipolar when going through a manic phase. People exibit agitation, racing thoughts, and anxiety. The article goes on to say that people who have a type of bipolar disorder could be missed diagnosed because when the person is going through a severe depressive stage could be over looking the manic feelings and actions. It also says that people could have more manic episodes than depressive episodes.http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb?index=12&did=1637152521&SrchMode=1&sid=1&Fmt=4&VInst=PROD&VType=PQD&RQT=309&VName=PQD&TS=1271949524&clientId=14507

Bipolar Articles
http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb?index=0&did=1976013281&SrchMode=2&sid=3&Fmt=4&VInst=PROD&VType=PQD&RQT=309&VName=PQD&TS=1271863007&clientId=14507My first article is about the onset of bipolar disorder or other psychological disorders in children whose parents suffer from bipolar disease. It says that parents who have the disorder are likely to have children who developed types of the disorder and are more likely to suffer from anxiety disorders. The article also stated that diagnosing bipolar is hard because you need to be able to talk with the person for more than one sit-down occasion. Also parents who suffer from the disease shouldn't think that everything their child does could be symptoms of a psychological disorder and should be in counseling to make sure that if the child ends up having a disorder, that he/she can be treated properly and before the disorder gets out of hand. The article is about a study that was done with parents with and without bipolar disorder and what disorders, if any, the children had. The results showed that the children with bipolar parents were very likely to have ADHD and to also have two or more psychological diseases.

deja vu
In our book it says that 2/3rds of all people have some sort of deja vu sometime in their lives. I don't know about other people but i have it a lot, maybe a couple times a month. The last time it happened was the other day and i was really tired and stressed and the book mentions that being stressed and over tired could affect deja vu. My deja vu's also are never really of something that is going on (example being someone walking passed me) but mine are just of people saying things in a conversation to me. i want to keep track of how I'm doing physically whenever this happens and see if being tired or stress really does affect my deja vu. If you know what affects yours i would be interested in knowing.

Terms from Ch. 9
Algorithm: a logical rule to make sure that the problem you need to solve...is solved.
-instead of going to down each aisle in a supermarket, i look at the list of all the items that is in the store and which isle they are in, this guarantees i will find what I'm looking for.
Insight:a sudden realization of an answer to a problem.
-i always have words on the tip of my tongue that i cannot find when I'm answering questions on written tests, occasionally if i keep thinking about it i will get the word i need to answer the problem i need to answer.
Confirmation Bias: searching for information that supports what you believe and ignore all things that discredits what you believe.
-When writing a paper with a thesis, i always make my thesis first and find information that backs up my thesis and i ignore everything else.
Mental Set: approaching something in one particular way always that may have worked previously.
-When at work and i have to help people to the bathroom on set schedule i usually find that people don't want to get up and use the bathroom even though the doctor recommends a scheduled time. I have found that asking them to help me learn to help people by practicing on them (they also have dementia), this way they think that they are helping other people by going to the bathroom.
Belief Perseverance: the tendency to still believe what you think is correct even when what you think was discredited.
-I still believe in my religion when scientist have credited the "big boom" theory that is believed by most scientist and people today.
One-Word Stage: one to two year olds in a stage of learning how to speak, the child mostly speaks in single words.
-My sister is 2 and she is now in the one-word stage and is learning a lot of words fast but still isn't putting the words together yet.
---- This assignment isn't late because i wasn't here when you assigned it, just didn't want you to forget and give me a zero.

Autism
My sister has autism. Although it is very very slight, if your around her enough you can see some signs. When she was younger the signs were more prominent. She needed to be wrapped tightly (to the point where she couldn't move her arms or legs) in order to go to sleep. She also could spend hours looking at a ceiling fan. I thought the article made a good point that maybe autistic children just don't see a point to copying people. Copying is a social thing to do and autistic children are unequipped socially.

PSA's
This was the one Ali, Grace and I did...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84ZBxXJ2Hm0
This was one of my favorites because i liked how they went all through Ashwaubenon and took pictures of all the places they talked about. I also thought that their information was very interesting.

This was another one of my favorites because i thought that it was funny and would make people listen more because it was funny. I also liked how it rhymed because it brought something different to the psa's.

Hearing
As a child I have done all the yearly hearing checks like everyone else has also done. The other day i was at Barnes and Noble and an elderly man sat next to me. Occasionally he would turn to me and ask me what i just said (every time i had said nothing), he would apologize and tell me about how he was very hard of hearing in his right ear. What he was hearing was two ladies sitting to the left of him...not me. I was wondering if someone could possible explain this to me. Why if he was hard of hearing on his right side, sounds from his left side would appear to be coming from his right?

Preconventional Morality
Kohlberg's preconventional morality states that children obey rules so they won't get into trouble. What if a child in that stage of development does things even though they know it is wrong?? Do they think that the benefit out ways the consequence? Could it be the parents fault for setting rules but not consequences at all? I happen to know a child like this. Her mom sets rules and the child blatantly disobeys the rules but when told they weren't allowed to do something she says "I know" but continues to do it. Is there something wrong with this child, or is she just going through a stage--even though this has been going on for the four years I have known her.

Neuroplasticity
The tongue is a very sensitive muscle. There are also many neurons on the tongue. If stimulated the neurons send impulses to the reticular formation which sends those impulses to the thalamus. The thalamus then sends those impulses to the cerebral cortex and the cerebral cortex processes the impulses and sends them to the oc
cipital lobe where vision occurs. When the signals rewire I would hypothesis that the signals are rewired to the area where they are being used (from the tongue), and the old path (from the eyes) is deminished.

Haloperidol
Haloperidol is used to treat schizophrenia and Tourettes Syndrome . Haloperidol blocks dopamine receptors so neurotransmitters cannot go to the next neuron and it is antagonistic. If taken for a long period of time could cause extrapyramidal symptoms (involuntary movements that look as if it's Parkinson's disease) and hyperprolactinemia (vaginal dryness, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunctions). If misused these side affects will be more commonly found because you need to be checked by a doctor a lot in order to keep symptoms at bay.

First Test!!
Did a lot better than i thought i did, i was soooo happy! i got an 89.4% before corrections. I studied for 4 hours the night before, and i felt like i still knew nothing, but i guess i learned something! My expectations are still the same, i want to study the same amount, if not more, before a test. I am however a lot calmer about the class, so i think that will help me do better also, as long as i'm not over confident!

youtube assignment
It took forever!!! I do think that it was fun but i thought it was frusterating because i wanted to get it done with because it ended up taking us from eight to midnight to film because we kept screwing up!! I did like it because i have never been asked to do something like that so it was a good experience. I think that future classes should do this because by learning your lines pretty much glued the information into my head which will help out on the test.

Technology
Got our netbooks today! It was a little confusing at first but everything got done. I think the netbooks will be fun to work on and take notes because i can type faster than i can write so that should be good for me. Over all pretty good ap psych class.

First Quiz and Expectations
First quiz was hard!! I completly failed, but I thought it was a good learning experience as to how to study for the next quiz/test. I'm planning on re-reading 1-13 and typing my own notes on the reading instead of just highlighting and re-reading. If anyone wants to study with me, let me know, i'm willing!
After that first test I realized that i'm going to have to study even harder than I thought! I thought that this would be a hard class but i didn't think it would be this hard. I'm going to have to try really hard to get the grade i want
