Neuroplasticity
The tongue is a very sensitive muscle. There are also many neurons on the tongue. If stimulated the neurons send impulses to the reticular formation which sends those impulses to the thalamus. The thalamus then sends those impulses to the cerebral cortex and the cerebral cortex processes the impulses and sends them to the oc
cipital lobe where vision occurs. When the signals rewire I would hypothesis that the signals are rewired to the area where they are being used (from the tongue), and the old path (from the eyes) is deminished.
