Terms from Ch. 9

Algorithm: a logical rule to make sure that the problem you need to solve...is solved.
-instead of going to down each aisle in a supermarket, i look at the list of all the items that is in the store and which isle they are in, this guarantees i will find what I'm looking for.
Insight:a sudden realization of an answer to a problem.
-i always have words on the tip of my tongue that i cannot find when I'm answering questions on written tests, occasionally if i keep thinking about it i will get the word i need to answer the problem i need to answer.
Confirmation Bias: searching for information that supports what you believe and ignore all things that discredits what you believe.
-When writing a paper with a thesis, i always make my thesis first and find information that backs up my thesis and i ignore everything else.
Mental Set: approaching something in one particular way always that may have worked previously.
-When at work and i have to help people to the bathroom on set schedule i usually find that people don't want to get up and use the bathroom even though the doctor recommends a scheduled time. I have found that asking them to help me learn to help people by practicing on them (they also have dementia), this way they think that they are helping other people by going to the bathroom.
Belief Perseverance: the tendency to still believe what you think is correct even when what you think was discredited.
-I still believe in my religion when scientist have credited the "big boom" theory that is believed by most scientist and people today.
One-Word Stage: one to two year olds in a stage of learning how to speak, the child mostly speaks in single words.
-My sister is 2 and she is now in the one-word stage and is learning a lot of words fast but still isn't putting the words together yet.
