Haloperidol is used to treat schizophrenia and Tourettes Syndrome . Haloperidol blocks dopamine receptors so neurotransmitters cannot go to the next neuron and it is antagonistic. If taken for a long period of time could cause extrapyramidal symptoms (involuntary movements that look as if it's Parkinson's disease) and hyperprolactinemia (vaginal dryness, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunctions). If misused these side affects will be more commonly found because you need to be checked by a doctor a lot in order to keep symptoms at bay.
